MENTAL MAP

http://www.economist.com/node/13326106

Mental maps are simple maps that we develop in our minds based on what we know. I chose this map because I believe this is how members of the Chinese government view the world right now. This image served as the cover of The Economist. It conveys that China is a bustling economically strong nation compared to the rest of the world currently. It conveys to the viewer that Taiwan belongs to them, that Japan is a just a group of islands, America and its association with capitalism is past its prime and currently in peril, and in the background Europe is just a location with some associations and Africa is a land with some pyramids.
